San Isidro Labrador

$48.50
Notes of Plum, Orange, Jasmine
Johel Monge Naranjo established Hacienda San Isidro Labrador during the 2014-2015 harvest season, just a few years after investing in the planting of thousands of gesha and typica plants on the farms tended by him and his son, Mathias, in the Los Santos region of San José province. Since then, their gesha lots have placed in the top ten of the Costa Rican Cup of Excellence competition for the past five consecutive years, with a 1st place overall win achieved in 2023. This particular lot exhibits balanced flavors of plum, raw honey, and marmalade, with complex florals reminiscent of spearmint and jasmine in the finish.

San Isidro Labrador

The Los Santos zone, located in the mountainous San José province of Costa Rica, has been home to many award winning coffee producers of recent years, including fellow COE winner Ivan Gutierrez, who is located in nearby San Marcos. Los Santos is made up of a small group of ‘cantons', including Tarrazú, Dota, and León Cortés Castro. Producer Johel Monge is located in the Dota canton, which itself is made up of three distinct districts, one of which is called Santa Maria, the city most closely located to Hacienda San Isidro Labrador. Costa Rica is one of just a handful of countries in the world that recognize Catholicism as its official state religion, and the names of the majority of the districts in the Los Santos Zone, and the zone itself, refer to various catholic saints including San Isidro: the patron saint of farmers.
