Transparency

Envisioning and pursuing value chains that are accountable and equitable.

Despite growing international demand for specialty coffee, the livelihoods of many producers remain tied to commodity market prices which often fail to cover farmers' cost of production, much less support a thriving quality of life. For far too many of the people behind one of our favorite specialty beverages, coffee production is simply not a worthwhile business to be in. At Passenger, we envision a fairer, more genuinely sustainable future, and we believe greater transparency throughout our industry is essential to its pursuit.

Price Transparency Reporting

Our annual coffee transparency report shares the prices that Passenger paid for every pound of green coffee contracted in the most recent harvest year. In addition to lot-specific pricing and cup quality data, our reports often include dispatches from Passenger’s green buying team: highlighting special projects and sharing field updates from recent visits with our Foundational Partners.

The Specialty Coffee Transaction Guide

The Specialty Coffee Transaction Guide (SCTG) is an incredibly useful contextual resource to aid the evaluation of coffee price data. The guide is published by a team of researchers at Emory University who aggregate and analyze detailed information representing tens of thousands of anonymized coffee transactions donated by over 100 importing, exporting, and roasting companies throughout the specialty coffee industry. Passenger was proud to join the SCTG community as a data donor in 2021, and we strongly recommend that interested readers engage with the project.
