Luz Mary Hurtado is one of a growing number of award-winning coffee producers we've had the privilege of discovering through our long-standing Divino Niño partnership in the municipality of Suaza in Central Huila. Last fall, Luz placed among the top twenty producers in the Central Region category of the annual Copa de Oro competition, and her exceptional talent is once again on display in this impressively sweet and nuanced field blend of pink bourbon and gesha varieties. A fitting expression of the plant genetics at play, we taste classic pink bourbon characteristics of sweet dark berries and juicy lime-like acidity, with a hint of gesha-like florality that presents as hibiscus and lavender in the cup.

Luz Mary Hurtado’s Finca Los Huequitos is located in the rural vereda of Bajo Horizonte in the municipality of Suaza. Her two-step fermentation approach during processing is similar to that of many producers throughout the region. For Luz, the process begins with a 40-hour resting period in whole cherry before pulping. The coffee then undergoes a secondary 40-hour fermentation in sealed barrels before being washed and dried on raised beds for roughly 30 days.
